Stuart Broad Explains How He Recovered From Yuvraj Singh’s Six-Sixes

Stuart Broad, an aging English paceman, shocked the cricket community when he announced his retirement from international play, saying the current Ashes Test at Kennington Oval would be his last game. With 20 wickets so far in the Ashes 2023, Broad is leading England’s wicket-takers for the team despite being 37 years old and having not yet bowled in his last innings. After his bowling partner James Anderson, he will end his career as the bowler with the second-highest wicket total in Test cricket history.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-102982″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-chhindwara-model-of-kamal-nath-to-win-over-tribals-in-mp-election-download-2023-07-30t182520.611.jpg” alt=”” width=”1018″ height=”570″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-chhindwara-model-of-kamal-nath-to-win-over-tribals-in-mp-election-download-2023-07-30t182520.611.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/theindiaprint.com-chhindwara-model-of-kamal-nath-to-win-over-tribals-in-mp-election-download-2023-07-30t182520.611-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1018px) 100vw, 1018px” />

His international career did not begin well, however, as Yuvraj Singh brutally beat him at only 21 years old when they were at the park. Yuvraj, an experienced Indian batsman, destroyed him for six sixes in a single over at the 2007 T20 World Cup, which brought scrutiny on him.

Broad reminisced about the game and said that it served as the foundation for his whole mental regimen.

Yes, it was clearly a difficult day. At that time, I would have been 21, or 22. Knowing that I fell far short as an international performer, I gained a lot of knowledge and essentially built an entire mental routine as a result of that experience. After Day 3 of the last Ashes Test, Broad told reporters, “I’d hurried my preparation, I didn’t have any pre-ball routine, and I didn’t have any concentration.

The illustrious bowler said that after being struck by Yuvraj, he began to develop a warrior mode for himself, which enabled him to recover and conquer the cricketing world for almost 16 years after that.

After that encounter, I began creating my “warrior mode,” as I like to refer to it. I wish that hadn’t happened in the end. The fact that it was a dead rubber helped me a lot because I didn’t feel like I had eliminated us from the World Cup. But I believe it toughened me up to make me the competitor I am today and has really pushed me ahead,” he said.

The 37-year-old went on to discuss Ben Stokes, who through a lot of hardships after being struck by Carlos Brathwaite for four consecutive sixes. He recovered from it, however, and assisted England in winning the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2023 T20 World Cup.

“You have enormous peaks and troughs, and when you consider someone like Stokesy’s (Ben Stokes) career, he has experienced the same kind of thing. In the end, it comes down to your capacity to bounce back from setbacks and go on. In cricket, you will undoubtedly have more bad days than good days, therefore you must deal with them to ensure that your good days may thrive, as I have learned over the last 15 or 16 years.
