Sonia Devi qualified for the semifinals, which were held later in the day, by placing fourth in women’s kayak single 500m (sprint) heat 2 with a time of 2:17.351 in the morning session.

With a time of 2:16.435, the Indian produced a far better performance in the semifinal round to place second and go to the final, behind Madinakhon Ashrafxonova of Uzbekistan (2.11:352) in first place and Thailand’s Khanyakron Suphawatthanakon (2.18:260) in second.

On Tuesday, the medal competition will take place.

But Megha’s failure to qualify for the final of the women’s 200-meter canoe sprint left India feeling disappointed.

Megha was able to make it into the semifinals despite completing her heat 1 event in last place in a five-person field with a time of 56.705 and 4.175 seconds behind the winner.

Megha placed fourth in the semifinal, last overall, with the top three moving on to the final. Her time was 55.406, 3.523 off.
