On February 8, GP presidents received letters from RDPR minister Priyank Kharge, which TNIE has access to, reminding them of their obligations.

According to Kharge, GPs are required under the Karnataka Grama Swaraj and Panchayat Act 1993 to establish their budget each year depending on the funds they get and the various levies they collect from the public. It is required of them to provide information on the amount they have in their GPs as well as a strategy to do different developmental activities within the budget. Before March 10, the budget has to be drafted and approved. He also said that the relevant taluk panchayats should receive the budget presentation.

On Sunday, Kharge said that in an effort to promote openness, the Congress administration wrote to the presidents of the GP. Village residents are entitled to know what their general practitioners are doing. The budget, if approved, need to be posted on the notice board so that the public is aware of the financial situation and activities of their Panchayats. The financial status and requirements of general practitioners will also be clearly represented for the government. The government would undoubtedly step in if further funding is required, he said.
